On Monday we noted that Obama had only talked to General Stanley McChrystal once since assuming command in Afghanistan.
Now Jordyn Phelps at ABC News' Political Punch Blog is reporting that yes, Obama has only spoken to McChrystal once, but the President gets a weekly memo.
White House Spokesman Robert Gibbs Said Obama Gets A Memo Every Week From McChrystal. “White House Spokesman Robert Gibbs in a briefing Tuesday dispelled speculations that the President isn’t consulting with the general. ‘The president receives a memo every week from General McChrystal,’ Gibbs said.” (Jordyn Phelps, “Gibbs Explains Why The President Has Only Talked To General McChrystal Once In 10 Weeks,” ABC News’ Political Punch, 9/29/09)
Glad that’s been cleared up. You can rest easier now knowing that Obama’s full attention is paid to Afghanistan.
Oh, and after it was reported by The Washington Times that Obama and McChrystal have talked only once, there’s a video teleconference scheduled for tomorrow. What a coincidence.
“President Obama Will Meet Tomorrow Via Video Conference With Mcchrystal And Other High-Level Officials To Discuss The Future Plans Regarding Afghanistan.” (Jordyn Phelps, “Gibbs Explains Why The President Has Only Talked To General McChrystal Once In 10 Weeks,” ABC News’ Political Punch, 9/29/09)
