Nasty Reid Is Back

The Drudge Report has an interesting story about Senator Harry Reid (D-NV). As reported by The Associated Press, Reid “described then-Sen. Barack Obama as ‘light skinned’ and ‘with no Negro dialect.’ Obama is the nation's first African-American president.”

Reid of course, “regrets” what he said and sends his apologies to anyone who may be offended by his remarks.

Thing is, Reid has a history of using incendiary language and over-the-top rhetoric.

Reid Accused Then-Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist And Republicans Of “Amateur Leadership.” “The Democrats have issues of their own, not the least of which is Dr. Frist’s plan to spend 30 hours next week attacking Democratic filibusters against a few of President Bush’s judicial choices. They see that as a poor use of precious remaining time. ‘I’ve never seen such amateur leadership in the all the time I’ve been in Congress, 21 years,’ Mr. Reid said.” (Carl Hulse, “As The Session Winds Down, Sniping Rises On Capitol Hill,” The New York Times, 11/8/03)

Reid Called Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas An “Embarrassment.” NBC’s Tim Russert: “Why couldn’t you accept Clarence Thomas?” Harry Reid: “I think that he has been an embarrassment to the Supreme Court. I think that his opinions are poorly written. I don’t - I just don’t think that he’s done a good job as a Supreme Court justice.”  (NBC’s “Meet The Press,” 12/5/04)

Reid Threatened To Take The Debate Over Then-President Bush’s Judicial Nominees “Behind The Pool Hall And See Who Wins.” “Noting that the only complaint he has heard from fellow Democrats is that not enough of Bush’s judicial nominees were blocked in the past four years, Reid said he is prepared ‘to go behind the pool hall and see who wins this one.’” (“Washington In Brief,” The Washington Post, 2/2/05)

Reid Called Then-Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan “One Of The Biggest Political Hacks We Have In Washington.” “Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan came under political fire this week as never before in his 18-year career. On Thursday, the Senate’s top Democrat, Nevada’s Harry Reid, called the central bank chief ‘one of the biggest political hacks we have in Washington.’” (Kevin G. Hall, “Partisans, Journalists Mock, Rap Greenspan,” Detroit Free Press, 3/5/05)

Reid Accused President George W. Bush Of Lying. “Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) accused President Bush on Friday of lying to him about the role his administration would play in a possible Senate rules change — the latest sign the chamber is headed for an unprecedented showdown over judicial nominees.” (Mark Preston, “Reid: Bush Lied About White House Role In Nuclear Option,” Roll Call, 4/22/05)

Oh, and who can forget this doozy where Reid compares opponents of ObamaCare to those who opposed the abolition of slavery?
