Government To Be Classified As Sched. 1 Narcotic

Okay, not really, but the way Democrats are peddling Big Government solutions, maybe it should. While we don’t do a lot of opining here, we are compelled to chime in once in a while.

As you know, Democrats, specifically liberal Democrats, are pushing a takeover of the health care industry. They have a lot of reasons why government-run health care is necessary.  When President Bill Clinton made his famous speech before both Chambers of Congress to push HillaryCare in 1993, it was about making sure everyone had health coverage. There was no mention of bending the curve on out-of-control spending, deficit reduction, or job creation.

With President Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi, and Harry Reid, it’s also about coverage, but it’s also about cutting costs, reducing the deficit, creating jobs and on and on. You see, the justifications change, but the ultimate goal does not: creating a new entitlement.

Democrats love creating new entitlements. It’s how they get you addicted to government, dependent on Washington, D.C., looking to your elected official for a fix. The more incapable you are of taking care of your own affairs the better, as far as they are concerned. It means more power and more control. That’s why they simply don’t listen when folks outside of the Beltway say they think individuals are responsible for their own health care, not the government. That’s why they turn a blind-eye to polls that show only “lukewarm” support to government-run health care. How else to explain their drive to pass this legislation in such a hurry?

“61% Of Americans Overall Say Americans Themselves -- Rather Than The Government -- Have The Primary Responsibility For Ensuring That They Have Health Insurance.”  (Lydia Saad, “Many In U.S. See Health Insurance As Personal Responsibility,” Gallup, 9/30/09)

“Lukewarm Reception” To Democrat Efforts To Install Government-Run Health Care. “Despite a widely shared conviction that major health care changes are needed, Democratic bills that aim to extend coverage to the uninsured and hold down medical costs get no better than a lukewarm reception in the latest results.”  (Ricardo Alonso-Zaldivar and Trevor Tompson, “AP Poll: Fine Print In Health Care Prompts Worries,” The Associated Press, 10/16/09)

• 43% Oppose, 41% Support, And 15% Remain Undecided. “The poll found that 43 percent of Americans oppose the health care plans being discussed in Congress, while 41 percent are in support. An additional 15 percent remain neutral or undecided.”  (Ricardo Alonso-Zaldivar and Trevor Tompson, “AP Poll: Fine Print In Health Care Prompts Worries,” The Associated Press, 10/16/09)
