Jay Rockefeller,

A Balanced Budget? Senate DEMs Still Part Of The Problem

Over the course of the past few years, folks have finally focused on Washington’s inability to rein in out-of-control spending, unsustainable deficits and potentially catastrophic debt. The question has been, and continues to be, who will stand up and lead? Who will shoulder the responsibility of getting our fiscal house in order?

A little more than a year ago, I noted here that it sure as hellfire won’t be Senate Democrats that can be counted on to lead. Why? To truly force Washington to live within its means, not spend more than it takes in, we need a Balanced Budget Amendment. Guess who it was to vote in lockstep against a Balance Budget Amendment in the 1990’s? Yup, Senate Democrats, including the likes of Barbara Boxer (D-CA), Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), Tim Johnson (D-SD), John Kerry (D-MA), Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ), Pat Leahy (D-VT), Carl Levin (D-MI), Barbara Mikulski, Patty Murray (D-WA), Jack Reed (D-RI), Harry Reid (D-NV), Jay Rockefeller (D-WV), and Ron Wyden (D-OR).
